Selfcare
Looking after yourself and also helping your child look after themselves can be challenging. The adage ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’ never made more sense, particularly for parents and carers of children with neuro-diversity. It can simply be, exhausting. Physical and mental wellbeing can be hugely impacted by the chaos of all that comes with living with kids, from hormones and work obligations to communication with schools and household responsibilities. It’s hard.
‘Burnout’ is recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an ‘occupational phenomenon’. It has been classified as a syndrome, meaning a collection of symptoms or signs associated with a specific health-related cause. Burnout can be experienced alongside other life pressures and excessive demands such as responsibilities as a caregiver or parent or living with a chronic illness or condition.
With all this in mind, it’s vital we put our own wellbeing in the mix of daily responsibilities to ensure we remain fit and healthy. I’m sharing a couple of apps opposite that offer support via mobile phones but some of these are subscription based. For more free services and apps I’d recommend visiting the NHS website here >
