BOOK LAUNCH
This is all very exciting isn't it!
I’ve been busy creating my first book – Home Education: a starting point
When we first realised that we would have to home educate our daughter, our initial fear was ‘where on earth do we start?’. So many things to consider including what did we need to teach her, did we need to follow the curriculum and what information would the local authority want from us to prove it was working.
So I thought it might be useful to have ‘A Starting Point’, hence the title.
This workbook includes key information such as:
- How to deregister from school and what to expect fro them
- How to work with the local authority and preparing end of year report
- 39 weekly planner to track progress
- KS1 guide to what you should be covering
- EHCPs and how to apply
- Knowing your rights!
I am hoping that this is a good starting point for anyone beginning a home education or home schooling journey, or even if they are just considering it.
I’ve included handy planners to jot down what your child has been learning as well as including pages to document contact with the Local Authority.
I’d love your reviews and comments if you do choose to download it – the Ebook version has links to downloadable PDFs too to make it easier for you to use.

Advice on deregistering from school
Knowing your rights and just as importantly, ensuring your school understands their own expected role in deregistering a child is something that can be a tricky situation. Many parents are unsure of what they need to do and some can feel pressured by school to attend meetings and justify their decision to deregister.
I’ve included a ‘how to’ section including a template letter to send to a school to deregister a child from a setting.
Advice on asking for an EHCP Assessment
Just because you choose to home educate a child or feel there isn’t any other suitable option, doesn’t mean you can’t request the local authority to carry out an EHCP assessment.
This book includes your guide on how to request an EHCP assessment and the legal timelines for all parties concerned.
Sadly this is such a poorly managed process a lot of the time so knowing your rights can be instrumental in getting that support for your child.
